Materials

  • DK yarn (e.g., Idealium Family Soft) in 3 coordinating colors.
  • Approx. total weight: 450–500 g (150–170 g per color).
  • 4 mm straight or circular needles (as preferred).
  • Yarn needle and scissors.
Idealium Tip: If you use skeins from different dye lots, alternate two skeins every few rows to even out the shades. This keeps the color consistent throughout the blanket.

Knitting gauge

In garter stitch (knit every row): 22 stitches × 38 rows = 10 × 10 cm.

If your swatch does not match, adjust the tension manually or change the needle size.

Measurements and construction

The finished blanket measures approximately 100 × 140 cm, perfect for a sofa or as a bed runner. It is knitted from the bottom up, alternating color stripes every 40–45 cm.

Size Width (cm) Length (cm) Approx. weight (g)
Sofa blanket 100 140 480
90 cm bed blanket 120 180 700
Bed runner 80 130 400

Step-by-step pattern

1. Cast on 220 stitches in color A.

2. Knit in garter stitch (knit every row) for 40 cm.

3. Change to color B and continue for another 45 cm.

4. Change to color C and knit the final 55 cm.

5. Bind off all stitches without pulling tightly.

Keep the tension even when changing colors. For a neater result, always carry the yarn along the edge and twist it slightly when changing colors to prevent gaps.

Color combinations

  • Natural: linen + beige + cocoa brown.
  • Autumnal: terracotta + mustard + taupe.
  • Soft: dusty pink + cream + pearl gray.
  • Modern: medium gray + petrol blue + off-white.

Alternate stripes of different widths for a more organic effect, or play with gradients within the same color family.

Blocking and care

  1. Wash the blanket in cold water (max. 30 °C) with mild soap.
  2. Gently squeeze out the excess water without wringing.
  3. Lay it flat on a flat surface (towel, mat, or protected bed) and adjust the corners to the desired measurements.
  4. Allow it to dry completely before use.

Idealium Tip: store the blanket folded rather than hanging it to prevent it from becoming misshapen under its own weight.
