Materials

  • DK wool (e.g.: Idealium Family Soft ) in 3 coordinated colours.
  • Total weight approx.: 450–500 g (150–170 g per color).
  • 4 mm straight or circular needles (according to preference).
  • Wool needle and scissors.
Idealium Tip: If you're using skeins from different batches, alternate two skeins every few turns to match the tones. This keeps the color uniform throughout the blanket.

Tissue sample

In garter stitch (all rows knit): 22 stitches × 38 rows = 10 × 10 cm .

If your sample does not match, adjust the tension manually or change the needle number.

Measurements and structure

The finished blanket measures approximately 100 x 140 cm , perfect for a sofa or bed. It's knitted from the bottom up, alternating colored stripes every 40–45 cm.

Size Width (cm) Length (cm) Approx. weight (g)
Sofa blanket 100 140 480
90cm bed blanket 120 180 700
Bed foot blanket 80 130 400

Step-by-step pattern

1. Cast on 220 stitches with color A.

2. Knit in garter stitch (knit all rows) for 40 cm.

3. Change to color B and continue for another 45 cm.

4. Change to color C and knit the last 55 cm.

5. Close all stitches without tightening.

Maintain even tension during color changes. For a more polished result, always guide the threads along the edge and twist them slightly when changing colors to avoid gaps.

Color combinations

  • Natural: linen + beige + cocoa brown.
  • Autumnal: terracotta + mustard + taupe.
  • Soft: old rose + cream + pearl gray.
  • Modern: medium grey + petrol blue + off-white.

Alternate stripes of different thicknesses for a more organic effect or play with gradients of the same range.

Blocking and care

  1. Wash the blanket with cold water (max. 30°C) and neutral soap.
  2. Drain gently without twisting.
  3. Lay it out on a flat surface (towel, mat, or protected bed) and adjust the corners to the desired measurements.
  4. Allow to dry completely before use.

Idealium Tip: Store your blanket folded instead of hanging it to prevent it from becoming deformed under the weight.
