Measurements and Pattern for Knitting Hats

Hat measurements

To crochet a hat in the round, start with a ring and crochet in the round, increasing during the first section (the crown), until reaching the number of centimeters shown in the “Increasing upper section” column. Then crochet another section without increasing, for the number of centimeters shown in the “Straight section without increases” column.

Basic pattern for a hat crocheted in the round

a) Increasing section

Make a magic ring. Crochet 6 stitches (single crochet throughout the pattern).

Round 1: crochet all increases (12 stitches)

Round 2: crochet 1 stitch, 1 increase… and repeat the sequence (finishing with 18 stitches).

Round 3: crochet 2 stitches, 1 increase… and repeat the sequence (24).

Round 4: crochet 3 stitches, 1 increase… and repeat the sequence (30 stitches).

We continue increasing the sequence in each round: X+1 stitches, increase.

In each round, we finish with 6 more stitches than in the previous round.

b) Straight section

Once we have reached the desired number of centimeters for the increasing section (according to the size being crocheted), we start crocheting a straight section without increasing.

If in the last round of the previous section we finished with N stitches, we will crochet all the following rounds with N single crochets.
