Step-by-step pattern
Start: ch 42 or until your piece measures 27 cm high (includes the fold allowance).
- Row 1. From the 3rd ch from the hook, work 1 hdc and continue with hdc to the end (you should have ~40 stitches).

- Row 2. Crochet 2 ch-stitches up. Crochet 5 hdc, working only in the front loop (photo A) + 35 hdc, working only in the back loop (photo B). Total of 40 stitches.
- Row 3. Ch 2 up. Crochet hdc in both loops (normal) across the row (40 stitches).
- Repeat rounds 2 and 3 until the piece is ~55 cm long (in the example, up to round 55), always ending with round 3 .

- Side closure. Join the short ends with slip stitches to form a tube, making sure the reliefs match.
- Place the fold on the alternating raised band. Sew the first stitch to the 10th stitch (Photo A) (the 10th stitch is just behind if the fold is ~5 stitches in front + 5 stitches in back), passing the needle through both sides of each raised stitch to ensure a secure fit (Photo B).

- Top closure. Using a tapestry needle, thread the yarn through the first loop of each relief stitch at the top of the hat (photo A), pull to gather (photo B), and fasten. Reinforce by passing through the first two relief stitches, skip 3, and repeat (photo C).
- Pull the thread and secure it: there you have it!
✨ Finishes
- Hide the threads on the inside with a wool needle.
- Fold the bottom band for a comfortable fit and signature look.
- Optional: Lightly mist (without touching) to set the relief.
💡 Tips
- Looser: Add 2–4 ch at the beginning to gain height before the fold.
- Lighter: Use category CYC #3 (DK / Light) with a 4 mm needle for a finer fabric.
- Warmer: Opt for a wool or acrylic blend, ideal for winter.
