Materials

  • DK wool (e.g. Idealium Family Soft ) in 3 colors.
  • Total weight approx.: 200–250 g (100–125 g main color, remainder for contrast).
  • 4mm straight or circular needles.
  • Wool needle and scissors.

Tissue sample

In garter stitch (knit every row): 22 stitches × 38 rows = 10 × 10 cm .

If your sample doesn't match, adjust the tension (knit looser or tighter) or change the needle size.

Measurements and structure

Adult scarf with balanced proportions: 22 cm wide × 180 cm long . It is knitted in one piece, starting from one of the short ends.

Guy Width (cm) Length (cm) Approx. weight (g)
Adult scarf (classic) 22 180 230
Narrow scarf 18 170 200
Wide scarf 26 190 260

Adjust the length to your liking: a longer scarf will allow you to wrap it twice around your neck.

Step-by-step pattern

Knitted flat in garter stitch (all rows knit).

1. Cast on 46 stitches with color A.

2. Knit in garter stitch for 20 cm.

3. Change to color B and continue 25 cm.

4. Change to color C and knit another 25 cm.

5. Repeat the sequence A–B–C until you reach a total length of 180 cm.

6. Close the stitches loosely.

If you prefer thin stripes, change color every 6–8 rounds.

Color ideas

  • Soft and natural: linen + beige + taupe.
  • Autumnal: terracotta + mustard + copper.
  • Cool and modern: medium gray + petrol blue + white.

Choose shades of similar saturation for a harmonious effect or combine a neutral color with a more vibrant one for contrast.

Lock and care

Wash the scarf in cold water (max. 30°C) and lay flat to dry on a towel. If the wool allows, gently block to even out the stripes and smooth the weave.

Avoid ironing directly on the fabric; if you do, use a damp cloth on top.
