Invisible seam: how to join pieces without the seam showing

When we are crocheting a project, it is very common to find ourselves with two or more pieces that we need to join. Depending on the design or pattern, sometimes the seam itself is decorative and we do not intend to hide it, but at other times we want to join the pieces without the join being visible. There are ways to join pieces that we have crocheted separately without any joining seam showing. In this case, I am going to show you a very simple invisible seam in which neither the thread used to sew them nor the seam itself is visible.

To join two pieces, you will need: 

- Tapestry needle  

- Thread (three times longer than the section we want to sew) 

 

The thread can be any type, but I recommend that if it is not from the same ball used to crochet the pieces, it should at least be a similar thickness. Follow these steps and the seam will be completely hidden between the pieces:

 

1) Place the two pieces to be joined parallel to each other. The right side of the piece should face up and the wrong side down.
Insert the needle through the first hole on the left that we want to join from bottom to top.
Leave a yarn tail of approximately 15 cm underneath and tie it to the fabric for security.

 

 

2) Pass the needle through the first hole on the right from bottom to top.

 

 

3) On the left side:

 

A- Insert the needle through the last hole the yarn comes out of from top to bottom.

 

B- Pull out from bottom to top the needle through the next hole.

 

 

4) On the right side: repeat step 3.

 

 

5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the seam is complete.

 

 

6) Pull the thread (without pulling it too tightly, so the fabric remains at its natural tension).

 

 

7) Tie off the loose end and cut it.

 

 

And that's it! The area joined by the seam is invisible.
