Crochet double crochet stitch (double crochet stitch)

The double crochet stitch (also called the treble crochet ) is one of the most commonly used stitches in crochet. It's taller than the single crochet and half double crochet, allowing you to work faster and create a more drapey, lightweight fabric.

Step by step: how to knit the double crochet

  1. Grab yarn with the crochet hook.
  2. Insert the needle into the next stitch and yarn over again.
  3. Pull the needle out towards you: you will have 3 rings on the needle .
  4. Take yarn and pass it through the first two rings → there are 2 left on the needle.
  5. Take the thread again and pass it through the two remaining rings.
  6. You have one ring left on your needle : you have knitted a double crochet stitch!

💡 Tip: Keep tension even so all the high points are the same height.

🎥 How to crochet a double crochet

Practice the high stitch

To practice, make a simple square:

  • Cast on 10 chains.
  • Make 3 chain stitches in height and then 9 double crochet stitches (the 3 chain stitches count as the first stitch).
  • Turn the work, chain 3 more times in height and crochet another 9 double crochets.
  • Repeat until you reach 10 laps.

Where is the high point used?

  • Clothing (sweaters, tops, jackets).
  • Scarves and shawls with drape.
  • Light and airy blankets.
  • Projects that combine different stitches to create textures.

Conclusion

The double crochet is a basic and very versatile stitch in crochet. Master it well, as you'll find it in most patterns, and combine it with other stitches to add variety and texture to your projects.
